Completed Watercolor from Alex Kincaid Class

 

Here's my finished bouquet.

Blue flax, Poppies, Buterfly Magnolias star. 

Fillers include puff balls, eucalyptus leaves and other assorted leaves and stems.

I thouroughly enjoyed the class.  Even though it was not my original drawing, the colors and the fillers are all mine.

Watercolor is fun. 

Watercolor class

 I took a very inexpensive watercolor class  from Alex Kincaid last week.  The classes were via Zoom call, with recordings of the classes available later.  

Alex is a good teacher albeit a little heavy on the rah-rah talk.  

These are two postcards I made after the first two classes.   I sent them to friends just to say "hi" and that I'm thinking about them.   I haven't seen one of them in years but keep up with her via a mutual friend.  The other is an older friend that I visit in her Assisted Living apartment every week or so.  

Pictures for a bedroom

 My niece admired some of my watercolors and asked if I could do a large one for her bedroom.   But I don't fee skilled enough.   So I made 3 "normal" sized ones for her and sent them. 

Her sister copied the pictures and collaged frames to set them off.   

I think we make a great team.

Watercolor subscription boxes

I recently subscribed to LetsMakeArt watercolor boxes.  Each month I will get a box with paint, an inspiration photo, watercolor paper, and outlines.   There is a tutorial online every Wednesday night.

So far I have done the Celestial Wolf, a pumpkin postcard, a sunflower postcard, and a Thanksgiving poster.

I haven't done watercolors in years, but I have found that the tutorials are really pretty good about explaining the whys and hows.  I may actually learn something instead of just playing around!
Anyhow, here are my first efforts.

Oil Painting Class Session Two

Elaine started another painting and I rejoined the class.
It's really nice to be able to go to class with a good teacher right in the neighborhood.  All the other students travel a good way to get here; I'm very lucky.

This subject is an Iris.  I'm reminded of my mother's irises; she mostly had the standard purple ones and white ones, but she also had some yellow ones.  Then in the early 80's, I bought her some bulbs that flower peach and pink and other soft colors.  My sister has some at her house from divisions of Mamas, and I plan to go dig some up later this month.  I plant to put them along the fenceline to the west in my back yard.  I hate edging and am hoping that this will cut down on the need for it.

Colors started with olive green and ultramarine violet.  The background was first washed with acrylic tan.

Quilting Projects

I turned in little quilts to Art for Alzheimers in April and May.


Yesterday I started a pink Feathered Star in the guild's Gift of Quilting classes. No photo yet.

Water Lily

Office Depot scanned my waterlily and my Hibiscus pictures for me. I'm having some note cards made and am really excited, waiting for them to be delivered. Hope they turn out well.

Iris - Outside the Lines

Iris watercolor, by Linda Nuenschwander, that I saw in Art Class. Love the outlines that are not colored in precisely. My version is not as attractive, but I'm proud of it nonetheless.

Texas Hibiscus

Last night I framed the Texas Hibiscus watercolor that I started in class. I'm pretty pleased with it and have it propped on my mantle for now. It will migrate to the bedroom later.

I have another frame for the Gladiola and hope to get around to trying it out tonight.

The watercolor class has been fun. Too bad that the LLI Advanced Quilting will be scheduled for the same day and time. Guess watercolor will have to take a break.
